Uganda, The Pearl of Africa

Being the “Pearl of Africa”, Uganda is home to different ethnic groups. There are around forty languages used in the country with English as the official language used right after gaining independence.

In 2007, around 200,000 plus refugees and asylum seekers coming from Sudan and Congo stepped in the threshold of Uganda. Known for socially and educationally challenged group, Uganda has been one of the countries that gathered a pool of volunteers and social workers to help the Ugandan people to embark on a journey that will help them for the rest of their lives.

Education and Volunteerism in Uganda

A rise from around 2 million to around 7 million students happened from 1997 to 2004 when the Universal Primary Education was established in Uganda. With the increasing number of students, a substantial need in the improvement, refurbishment and even building of facilities and educational centers arose. Moreover, a necessity for technical aids and educators also evolved.

Soft Power Education: Reaching Out to Uganda

With a great desire and passion for volunteerism and education, Soft Power Education created a 5-year plan of doing refurbishments for the 20 Government Primary Schools located in Budondo, a sub country of Jinja. Around 35 classrooms have already been built successfully, 70 old classrooms have been renovated, 10 water tanks have been installed and around 120 classrooms have been set-up with teaching aids. On the other hand, there have already been 2 pre-school centers built especially for Orphans of AIDS. These are still being operated until now. On the other hand, Soft Power Education team also assisted the building of a local Health Clinic.

There are different fund-raising activities and several donation portals, which assist in facilitating the various projects of Soft Power Education. In this way, Soft Power Education does not only reach out to the children of Uganda but also create a difference that will last for a lifetime.

In reaching the place of Jinja, volunteers need not worry too much as Soft Power Education works in partnership with Brussels Airlines with regards to hassle-free airfare rates. Convenient flights to and from Uganda are specifically arranged to make it easy for travelers to take part in the various volunteerism projects of Soft Power Education.

Being a British-registered and non-government organization, Soft Power Education works closely with different groups and individuals in embarking to help improve the lives of the youth sector in Uganda.

The different volunteers at Soft Power Education experience many aspects of volunteerism during their stay in Uganda such as living with the people in the community, experiencing new challenges, learning new cultures, creating fulfillment not only to themselves but to the people of Uganda, enriching lives and fostering friendships and relationships to everyone in the community.

Committed volunteers and even tourists, spend a lot of time in doing the different projects of Soft Power Education and at the end of the day, they do not just assist the builders from painting to woodworking, but they also create a difference in the lives of the Ugandan children.
